What it tests

First-impression communication, structured thinking under pressure, and the ability to present ideas clearly without preparation time — before any human interview interaction.

Format

  1. 1Candidate receives a Hireflix (or equivalent) link with 3 recorded questions
  2. 2Each question has a 60–90 second thinking window before recording begins — no retakes
  3. 3Questions probe reasoning, prioritization, and how they frame complex ideas concisely
  4. 4Recordings are reviewed asynchronously by the hiring team before deciding whether to advance

What to look for

  • Clarity and structure of communication under time pressure — no prep, no polish
  • Whether the candidate defaults to frameworks or genuine thinking when caught off guard
  • Executive presence and tone: confident without being scripted
  • How they handle ambiguity in the question itself — do they clarify assumptions or barrel forward?
  • Efficiency: do they use their time well or pad answers with filler?

Adaptation guide

Use a tool like Hireflix, Spark Hire, or even a self-recorded Loom prompt. Limit to 3 questions max. Design questions around real scenarios the CoS will face: a stakeholder conflict, a competing priority decision, or a communication challenge. Use the recordings as a first filter before scheduling any live interviews.
